In the autumn of 1997, in response to the needs of an astonishing
number of stray cats (over +300) in Branford, a small group
of concerned citizens gathered together to form the
Branford Compassion Club (BCC).
During the past 10+ years, the BCC has rescued and treated
over 2,000 cats and kittens by vets. BCC does this through
the humane method of trap-neuter-return (TNR),
in conjunction with its wellness and feeding programs.
Once these cats are rescued, they are tested for feline
diseases, neutered and vaccinated against rabies and
distemper. Those deemed adoptable are found new homes.
The others are released back to our controlled colonies, where they
are provided with food,
shelter, and care for rest of their lives.
The Branford Compassion Club was
instrumental in leading
the fundraising efforts
to build Branford's Dan Cosgrove Animal
Shelter to help less fortunate animals.
